When is a food shelf not full? When it’s part of a food pantry.

October 31, 2013

Frisco Family Services helps members of our communities who are facing hunger, homelessness and other urgent needs improve their quality of life and achieve self-sufficiency.

Three weeks ago, Frisco Family Services made an urgent plea to collect 60,000 pounds of food in October as Frisco’s only Food Pantry was almost empty. What we saw was incredible. You, along with the Frisco and Frisco ISD community, stepped up to help us ensure that families in crisis in our neighborhoods do not go hungry.

We saw families make extra room in their grocery budget and use this experience as a teaching moment for their children. We saw HOAs, businesses and play groups hold food drives. Cobb Middle School held an extra food drive and collected over 1,800 pounds of food in four days.

The Potter’s House of North Dallas asked their members to each donate $30 to the Food Pantry. They collected over $8,000 and were able to buy more than 4 pallets of food from Kroger. You can check out their story here.

Bent Tree Bible church issued a call to collect 10 TONS (20,000 pounds) of food. We started picking up the food this past Monday, Oct. 28 and are still picking it up!

One of our donors who  made an online contribution to the food pantry shared that she was making this donation because she remembered having to “eat beans and franks” and leaving her groceries on the store counter because she did not have enough money to pay for them. What a powerful testament to the fact that we can never forget where we have come from or what we have experienced. Often our tests in life become our testimony to the world.

Your response was and is overwhelming and extremely appreciated. Because of your support, we have collected over 70,000 pounds of food and are still processing donations.

You helped take our shelves from this:

However, when is a food shelf not full? When it’s part of a food pantry. As we come upon the holidays, our Food Pantry will be in more demand. Keep us in mind as you go grocery shopping and help keep this vital resource of the community stocked.

From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU for your continued support. We truly could not do our work without you.
