Lance Armstrong’s response to Tony Kornheiser

March 22, 2010

What happens when you are Tony Kornheiser and you make a few statements on your radio show about cyclists like; Run them down.” Or “So you tap them. I’m not saying kill them.”  You get a phone call from Lance Armstrong while he is in France training and a whole bunch of negative press for you and your radio show. Geoff’s favorite App

November 9, 2009
So do you have a cell phone that lets you load and use applications, called apps?  I have the iPhone (though Julie still calls this my aPhone) and I have some great apps, 7 pages of them.  Here is what is on my main page, Safari web browser, calendar, To Do’s, iPod, Facebook, Tweetie, Bible Verses, iTalk to God, Birthday Cal, Echofon (2nd Tweet- this one for the Frisco cycling club) Camera, The Weather Channel, foursquare, LiveStrong, News Fuse and Pandora.

And my new favorite app is the LiveStrong as it is my work out log and calorie counter.  Ever since mom came down to help us with the twins and her comments about my gain in weight did I really take notice that I was putting on a few extra LBS.  With this app I can see how crappy I eat and that working out truly does help!

Have a favorite app you are using- do tell-

Austin LiveStrong Challenge

One more photo from the Lance Armstrong ride a few weeks ago, me and Jeff Ellis near the end.

Below is a write up about the bicycle ride I did a few weeks ago in Austin written by my friend and fellow Frisco Cycling Club member, Jell Ellis:
It’s been a little over a week now since the Frisco Cycling Club participated in the Austin LiveStrong Challenge and what an awesome event it was.  Geoff Davis, Jeff Ellis, Jason Hatfield, Shanna Ellis, Matt Ellis, Kristina Syverson and Kyle York all joined in for the FCC Team.  Collectively the Team raised $3,335 in support of the Lance Armstrong Foundation which works to fight the ongoing battle with Cancer.  This years ride began and ended in Dripping Springs, Texas which is located just West of Austin.  Routes of varying lengths wound through the beautiful Texas Hill Country strolling through countryside that we just are used to seeing in our own area.  The scenery alone is well worth the trip!  Many thanks to those who participated as this is a very worthy cause and one in which our club will become more active in the future.

This year over 3,800 riders helped to raise nearly $10 million for the fight against Cancer.  In addition, all of the bikes ridden by Lance himself this year were auctioned during the weekend festivities.  This includes his Tour de France machines as well as the bike he rode in the Leadville 100 mountain bike race.  Collectively the bikes raised $1.3 million dollars.  Wow! Those are some expensive bikes.

For those who may not be familiar with LAF, The Lance Armstrong Foundation unites people to fight cancer, believing that unity is strength, knowledge is power, and attitude is everything.  Through the dollars and awareness that we raise, we can inspire and empower individuals, and we can make life better for the millions of people across the globe fighting cancer today.  The LAF not only works tirelessly to help fund the efforts to find a cure for Cancer and create a global awareness for how drastic and widespread the Cancer disease really is but the organization also goes to great lengths to help those who may find themselves currently in the fight with Cancer.  Whether you’re a Patient, a Caregiver, Family member or any of the other countless ways you can be affected by Cancer the LAF is available to help.  They have a tremendous support and educational network that is designed to help people cope with the situation by creating an understanding of how to most effectively battle Cancer.

Look for The FCC Team next year as well.  We plan to have an even bigger Team in 2010 for the Austin event and raise even more money for LAF.  So mark your calendar for the third weekend in October and join us in Austin.

Ride with Lance Armstrong

October 26, 2009
I rode my bicycle with Lance Armstrong this weekend, and many of you helped me do that.  This past weekend was the LiveStrong Challenge in Austin, TX that many of you graciously donated towards the team we put together to ride the event.  Seven of us from the Frisco Cycling Club (FCC) raised $3310 and rode for our teammate’s brother as he lost his fight to cancer 2 years ago.  Our teammate is Jeff Ellis and he, I and a few others were the driver behind getting the FCC to where it is today- a community focused cycling club that has a larger goal than just riding a bike.  Jeff’s brother Tom was diagnosed with cancer but did not let that slow him down and he and Jeff road many miles and events together.  I was proud to be part of this group and can’t wait for next year, maybe you will join the club and ride with us?

I Did it Again

August 31, 2009

I took on more than I should and need a bit of help.  Many of you know that Julie and I meet at the 1st Lance Armstrong event called Ride for the Roses down in Austin TX.  So, when my buddy asked me to join him this year to ride it- I quickly said yes.  Then remembered that I now have 4 kids and planning a weekend away on my own could be a tough sell but Julie was all for it.  Hopefully you might open this link and send me $5 towards my fundraising goal.  Or, join us on the team and come down to ride with me and Lance.

Team Tom Ellis

September 29, 2008

My many thanks to those that have help us raise thousands of dollars for the fight against cancer over the last few years.  The Lance Armstrong Foundation is an instrumental organization in not only helping to fund research aimed at curing cancer but the foundation is also a fantastic resource for those who may be dealing with this dreaded disease.  Please check out their website to see just what Lance has put together; Livestrong.org

This year I will once again ride through the Texas Hill Country in honor of my Brother, Tom, who bravely fought cancer and with whom I was able to cycle many miles with throughout his fight.  I addition, I am adding a new friend for whom I will be riding.  Rick Wrestling of Phoenix Arizona is a Cancer Survivor and is Living Strong.  Keep up the fight Rick!

Times are tough and money is tight this year so I’d like to take a little different approach to my fundraising efforts.  If you could donate just five dollars but at the same time send this message to ten friends then together we can raise the funds that will really make a difference.  Use the link to get to the Team Tom Ellis donation page

Thank you for your support in this fight against Cancer!
