I’ve got some great doctors

December 14, 2009

When we moved to Frisco I began attending the Frisco Chamber of Commerce networking meetings in order to establish myself as a businessman in our new community and also to meet other business people. Now that I am established in my own business I continue to attend the meetings to meet the new business people coming into the Frisco area. Frisco is like the old Gold Rush towns with new people arriving almost daily and I want to become acquainted with as many as possible.

One of the people with whom I became acquainted when we first arrived in 2002 is my Chiropractor, Dr. Brian Bullitt. He has become a good friend and is also one of the main sponsors of the Frisco Cycling Club. It is great to have him involved. I was also fortunate enough to meet Dr. Pedro Checo who has become my primary doctor. He has a great sense of humor, a great office staff who ensure that his schedule runs on time and is very direct which I appreciate. Dr. Chekko and I have a true bond in our love of Free State Brewery in Lawrence, Kansas. We have a mutual friend who has taken him to Lawrence and introduced him to Free State and we both have a great appreciation of their products!

Through Dr. Checo I was introduced to Dr. Gupta when I was in the market for lasik eye surgery. I would highly recommend Dr. Gupta as a caring and responsive doctor. He charges no more than any of the other doctors who perform this surgery and was always available to me both before and after my surgery. I would highly recommend him.

Recently Julie insisted that I go to a dermatologist to have some spots examined so I made an appointment with Dr. Michael McGuiness. From the beginning his staff was very pleasant and organized. Although I have been to a dermatologist before, I had never been to one where they did a full-body scan. It was very cool. Since I have spent a great deal of time in the sun while bicycling Dr. McGuiness talked with me about preventative measures I needed to take on a regular basis. I was genuinely impressed with his demeanor and his approach. So, if for any reason you have a need for a dermatologist, I would highly recommend Dr. McGuiness.

A Great Day for Sure

May 18, 2009

Yesterday was my birthday- a young 41 I am (but with twin girls on the way, young is not what I feel).  Instead of sleeping in I was up at 6am and on the road bicycle by 6:45 for a group ride with a few of my Frisco Cycling Club teammates.  My folks made the trip down from Lawrence, KS and that made it all the better as they could tend to our “angel” boys and let Julie sleep in!  That is a win/win– well, unless you are Gana and Papa who spent the morning taking requests and orders from the boys.  Home from the ride, a bite to eat, a 3 hour nap followed by a quiet dinner with the triplets and their families.  (Since a few of us at St. Philip’s have the same hair cut, Father Clay calls Eric, Todd and I the triplets.)  It is so great when mom and dad drive down and bring a few Growlers of Free State Brewing Company beer with them. This time was Ad Astra, Copperhead Pale Ale and Oatmeal Stout.  (Chuck, I need to connect you with Dave, the owner of Lochrann’s, and find a way to get kegs of your beer shipped down here so he can have it on tap!).  Some of the best birthday news was that the Fallon baby had arrived early! Please welcome Patrick Mclain Fallon to the world. What a blessing he will be to us all.

Hoops in the Square Update

September 8, 2008

We are just 2 Weeks away from the 3 on 3 basketball tournament promoted by my Sunrise Frisco Rotary Club.  The event will be held in Frisco Square, i.e. the name, Hoops in the Square.  It has been confirmed that Derek Harper will be there to judge the slam dunk contest so I hope if you don’t think you will put together a team, you might come by to slam one!

The Primrose of Frisco kids area opens early in the morning with tons of activities for the young ones.  There will be so much going on in the kids area it could be it’s own event!  Lochrann’s will open their beer and food area on site at 11am!

Goodie bags.  In a few weeks we will be stuffing over 300 of these and I would like for you to consider getting me something to place into them.  A good friend who promotes events for a living always told me, “make sure they leave with more value than they paid to participate.”  So, what can you put in them?  Gift certificate, coupons, key chains or other items that players and volunteers might find of value.  Don’t have?  Then partner with someone who does and offset their cost so you can both get represented in the bags.

Frisco Gets Boulevard:

March 10, 2008

That might not sound that great to you as it does to me, but for a Kansas kid, this was a good weekend.  Frisco area got a new store called “Goody Goody” and I was thrilled to to see Boulevard Pale Ale for on the shelves.  Granted, it is no Free State Ad Astra Ale or Copperhead Pale Ale, but it does remind me of home–and I was glad to help out a Kansas Micro Brewery.  Chuck, we are ready for you to bottle Free State beer and start shipping to TX!

Notes from an FC Dallas Press Release:

March 3, 2008
FC Dallas and Lochrann’s – recently finalized the extension of our partnership to include away game viewing parties and an in-stadium beer garden.  Their goal with the beer garden for this year is to establish a strong foundation to continue to grow the fan experience game by game.  The set-up for March 30th will be a scaled down model with the intention of growing the concept to a point where their food is also available from within Lochrann’s on the Stage.  Having been a part of the conversations with Lochrann’s since last January I am very proud of this partnership and know that it will continue to provide exciting experiences for our community of supporters.

Quotes:
“We’re very happy to announce our partnership with Lochrann’s Irish Pub,” said Hitchcock. “It’s exciting that our fans will have the opportunity to enjoy post-game parties and watch all away games together at Lochrann’s, as well as join us at Pizza Hut Park at Lochrann’s on the Stage, which promises to be a great beer garden. We couldn’t ask for a better pub partner who just happens to be a neighbor.”
“We’re excited to partner with FC Dallas and hopefully this will last many years,” said Deina McNabb, co-owner of Lochrann’s. “I think every pub would love to be in the backyard of a professional soccer stadium, which is why working with FC Dallas is a dream come-true. We’re looking forward to the start of the season when we can start celebrating with the fans, both at Lochrann’s and inside Pizza Hut Park.”
Harber Exclusive Note: In their first month Lochrann’s eclipsed all Texas bars and pubs in the sale of our favorite Irish beers.  They ranked in the top 25 in the country for this brand!
