On The Waiting List
September 29, 2008All we hear in Frisco is about youth soccer- so what better way for us to help stimulate the local economy than to get Luke on a team. Problem is we applied to late and got placed on a waiting list. Sure enough, Wednesday an e-mail came to an unknown total of waiting list names and I was the 1st to call- Luke is on the Knights! I pick him up early from school, go to Dicks Sporting Goods with the list in hand and get our assortment of Adidas soccer gear for the practice that night! Still not sure who was more excited, he or I and we had a blast. The team has had 3 games so far so needless to say we were a tad behind but with 2 awesome coaches that we meet that night- Luke was hooked and we made the 1st game on Saturday. Tips for a soccer dad- pass them on please!
9 Hours 49 minutes and 1 second
September 29, 2008That is the time it took my buddy and past teammate, Chris Aarhus to set a new course record at the Redman Triathlon in Oklahoma City. It was an Ironman distance and not bad for a guy his age. My goal is to one day have my company sponsor him but need to close a few more loans 1st, that is where you come in
Autosomal Recessive Polycystic Kidney Disease
September 29, 2008Our first child, a little girl named Malin Grace, was diagnosed with Autosomal Recessive Polycycstic Kidney Disease right after our 20-week sonogram. Doctors gave her a 50 percent chance of living beyond a month. Malin was only with us for 23 days. Her kidneys failed when she was 10 days old, and despite an operation, nine blood transfusions and dialysis she just couldn’t survive. Today, we have a healthy child, Isabella, but she is likely a carrier of the disease like we are . . . and will face the possibility of passing it along to her children some day. A terrible genetic cycle that we must break.
We continue Malin’s legacy by supporting the PKD Foundation, and have met many people in the North Texas area who are living with this disease that has no treatment and no cure. Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) affects 600,000 Americans and 12.5 million children and adults, worldwide. Awareness and research funding are essential. That’s why I signed up to run in the first RUN FOR PKD this year at the Chicago Marathon on Oct. 12. Link to my page.
Thanks for your help, Kristin
