Lost by Just Over 100:
June 23, 2008I knew the race was going to be close and it sure was, just over 100 votes separated my candidate from his competitor in the Frisco City Council race. Ouch. I have learned one thing from this: I won’t be running for office anytime soon as it would be far too stressful for me. Julie had this to say, “If you run for office, then I get to stay home!” That settled it; no office for me anytime soon.
Players Wanted!
June 23, 2008The Hoops in the Square, 3 on 3 basketball tournament, is scheduled for September 20. Promoted by my Frisco Sunrise Rotary Club, this event now has new sponsors! Baylor Medical Center of Frisco has agreed to be our Title Sponsor! This is good news to many of us who bodies have a tough time keeping up with our spirits. No telling how many will need that medical assistance. It’s good to know it’s just a tent away! Lochrann’s Irish Pub will be on hand for a pre-party the Friday night before the tournament and on game day with refreshments. And my favorite announcement of them all- Primrose of Frisco will be there as well to help with a children’s area that I bet even adults will want to come play in.
If Charts Are Your Thing:
June 23, 2008Then you need to see what Ross Perot is up to. Finally a way for me to understand how upside down we are as a Country- and it scares me. Though he says he is not doing this in preparation of a run for the top office again, just to help us all understand. I have to admit- I would like a business leader like Perot in the top office, at some point we need to start spending within our means and he might be the person to get that started again. What say you?
The BikeDFW Petitions Takes Off!
June 23, 2008One week since this BikeDFW petition was placed on line for signatures- the number of signees is at 4293 and growing. Will you be the next to sign it? CBS Channel 11 interviewed BikeDFW President Eric Jackson about the petition and the Dallas Morning News had it on the front page this Saturday! Help us make a difference and sign this today- just a small registration section and that gets you added to the list. Do it now before you forget!
Events To Sponsor Again!
June 23, 2008I had the privilege of attending an event our Frisco Cycling Club sponsored- Frisco Online Safety Fair. This event was well attended, well run and can’t wait for it to roll around next year. Our club, at the encouragement of the promoters, created a certificate that kids got if they promised to wear their helmet- huge hit!

June 23, 2008“Of course the truth is that the congresspersons are too busy raising campaign money to read the laws they pass. The laws are written by staff tax nerds who can put pretty much any wording they want in there. I bet that if you actually read the entire vastness of the U.S. Tax Code, you’d find at least one sex scene (“‘Yes, yes, YES!’ moaned Vanessa as Lance, his taut body moist with moisture, again and again depreciated her adjusted gross rate of annualized fiscal debenture”).” Quote by: Dave Barry
Just One Item Worth Sharing:
June 16, 2008I was sent this e-mail from a cycling group I belong to, BikeDFW. I hope you will join me in clicking that link below, filling out a fast registration tab and that adds your name to a petition. Thanks in advance!
7 cyclists in the past 7 days have been hit by cars in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. 2 were killed, 1 is in critical condition in the ICU at last report.
It’s all just too much. Recently a city council person said “Well there are not many people in my district who want to ride bikes anyway” Let’s prove him and a whole host of others like him wrong.
This isn’t just for the roadies or the mountain bikers – although we want you to sign it! It is for your neighbors whose kids ride to school, it is for the older couple on the corner who ride around the block. It is for anyone who in any way at all wants to see bikes on the streets without fear in North Texas. It is for those who would rather ride off the street, is is for those who will ride anywhere – and mostly – for those who won’t ride at all given current conditions.
Please forward this to everyone and anyone – it will not be used for commercial purposes, it will be used to answer comments such as the one above with “Well sir, actually there are 1217 people in your district who WANT to cycle!” and be able to prove it.
Sign the petition -
Sincerely -
BikeDFW
